Courage to Stand

Have you ever tried to stand up in a river or stream that was rushing past your feet? It looks simple, but it’s incredibly difficult to do. The water puts pressure on your feet that knocks you off balance. If you’re not paying attention, you’ll end up wet…

If you are going to follow Jesus in this world you’ll need courage. He is in charge of an up-side down kingdom where service, humility, chastity, & modesty are all cardinal virtues. Those things are often scorned in our society. So the currents of what is “normal” exert pressure on your life in a different direction. If your not careful, you’ll end up wet…

You wouldn’t need courage if you simply retreated from society. And you wouldn’t need courage if you simply conformed to society. But to follow Jesus into the world to love and redeem society, while resisting the current, that takes courage.

Courage to be different.

Courage to change personally.

Courage to be misunderstood.

Courage to stand for some true things in the middle of the rushing river of our culture.

Psalm 56:3 says something about courage so straightforward that it’s easy to miss.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”

If courage isn’t the lack of fear, but pressing ahead despite your fear, then God enables you to lead a courageous life. When you feel fear, you put your trust in him. It’s simple, but it takes a daily acknowledgement of what you truly fear. And a daily acknowledgement that God is bigger than whatever you fear.
